Sequel to 2018's God of War game
God of War Ragnarök is a premium action game that comes from developer Santa Monica Studio. It's the sequel to 2018's award-winning, poignant father-son adventure, God of War. It continues where the first left off and sees Kratos and Atreus journeying the Nine Realms to find a way to prevent Ragnarök.
Compared to the first God of War game, God of War Ragnarök will take advantage of next-gen hardware to bring a stunning visual experience at 4K resolution that can go up to 60fps.
The Norse Saga continues
The God of War reboot back in 2018 provided a touching and grounded tale, and that speaks volumes for a franchise that has predominantly occupied itself with violence and gore. With God of War Ragnarök, the father-son Norse adventure continues as Atreus seeks answers to the Loki prophecy while Kratos continues to battle his past and inner demons to try to be a father to the boy.
You can expect to wield Kratos' arsenal of weapons from his signature Leviathan Ax and Guardian Shield, and of course, the iconic Blades of Chaos. Together with Atreus' improved archery skills, a set of new skills and abilities provided by weapon runes, you will have access to a variety of ways to help you face enemies, creatures, and Norse gods throughout the realms.
As great as the storyline sounds, however, the pacing of the story is a little slow, as the story that is supposed to be unraveled through character dialogues can easily be interrupted. In addition, it delivers a type of difficulty that is only difficult for the sake of it rather than carrying out a more engaging and challenging gameplay for its players.
Multiplatform
God of War Ragnarök makes its debut on PC with the help of Jetpack Interactive after being exclusive to PlayStation 4 and 5 since its release in 2022. However, this is not just another gimmick to make it a cross-platform game, as several upgrades are added to lay out a more gripping adventure for Kratos and Atreus that players can enjoy.
Ragnarök’s PC port supports unlimited framerate, allowing smoother motion, reduced motion blur, and more responsive playthrough for players. Not only that, but it provides a 4K resolution, which means there are more pixels to show an image, so it can deliver clearer and more detailed graphics. In addition, if you enjoy playing with a large monitor, Ragnarök supports 21:9 and 32:9 aspect ratios for ultra-widescreen and super ultra-widescreen, respectively.
Unlike the PS4 and PS5 port of Ragnarök, this PC one is provided with increased geometric detail, giving an emphasis to the shapes, angles, dimensions, and sizes of the Norse world, and enhanced lighting and shadows for creating a more dramatic and realistic mood to the game. Lastly, this includes a free Valhalla DLC. So, if you haven’t played it yet, this is the best time to play it now.
The Continuation
God of War Ragnarök is an action-packed sequel to 2018's award-winning game, God of War, following the adventure of a father-and-son duo, Kratos and Atreus, in the Nine Realms to stop Ragnarök from taking place. However, two of its major setbacks include slow story pacing and surface-level type of difficulty.
